Finally a children's book that instills values and gets
your kids away from the TV and outside having fun
|
Dear Friend: Then there is the lure of indoor “sports”. Many kids would rather watch a computer generated Tony Hawk Skate Board than hit the streets themselves. According to a Kaiser Family Foundations Study, the average American kid (ages 2 – 18) spends the equivalent of a full work week – nearly 5 ˝ hours a day – watching TV, playing video games, surfing the internet, or listening to music (and probably not dancing while doing it). I don’t have to tell you this is not healthy. Kids are getting adult diseases, such as diabetes because they are overweight and inactive, and they live on junk food. Kids as young as 10 live on cholesterol lowering drugs! My childhood – like yours – was full of games, kick the can, freeze tag, hide and go seek, dodge ball. Heck, we just loved whacking a tennis ball against the garage door. “We would do that for hours”. But the world we live in isn’t the one we grew up in, where kids can play wherever they want. Dads and moms often work full time so kids aren’t always in their own neighborhood. ![]() My buddy’s brother who was a team rider for a local surf shop introduced me to surfing at age 15. That was it, I found the love of my life. Several years later at the OP Pro Surfing Contest in Huntington Beach, after surfing twice that day, I was asleep in the car and my buddy was driving, who also apparently fell asleep. We ran into a pole (the paramedics estimated we hit the pole at 100 miles per hour with no skid marks) I was in a coma for a month, 8 surgeries later after a broken hip, pelvis, femur, lacerated liver, collapsed lung and a device they drilled into my skull to relieve the swelling the doctors said I would have limited mobility. Once out of the hospital the rehabilitation began combined with reading tons of children’s books to get my mind and body back in shape. Eventually I was back on my bike and back in the water surfing. The most important thing I learned from all this is to be grateful and to always carry around the “attitude of gratitude”. What to do about it? That’s where we come in. This brand new, kid tested, parent approved, book and doll package can be yours. “Simon Makes Waves” and “Marcel Moves Mountains” won a top industry award from the world renowned Dr. Stevanne Auerback (Dr. Toy). Other giant companies we were competing against were Mattel, Hasbro, Baby Einstein, etc. “Surfing Magazine Book of the Month”. “Simon Makes Waves” – inspires baby surfers to read even before they can stand up, following a young boy’s introduction to the sport of kings. Add other key educational concepts, like numbers and colors, and “Simon Makes Waves” is a perfect score for the 2 – 7 years old crowd. “We have a great alternative to bust up your kid’s bedtime boredom”.
“Marcel Moves Mountains” is the newest children’s book by Jeff Lappin, a cyclist and author from California. Readers meet baby Marcel in his crib as he dreams of riding a bicycle around the world when he grows up. When he gets older, the enthusiastic toddler learns to ride a Big Wheel. Marcel soon moves on to a bike with training wheels and then saves up enough money to buy his first mountain-bike.
This fantastic, easy-to-understand portrayal of a champion cyclist in the making will delight children while teaching them the importance of bike safety and wearing helmets. Each page is full of colorful illustrations and has interactive questions at the bottom of each page to get kids involved in the story. At the end of the book, Lappin has
included Marcel’s biking tips and glossary to get young cyclists to get started on the right foot. Here’s what you’ll get:
